Household counter
Household size decides which income limit applies to you — and SNAP, Medicaid, housing programs, and tax credits each count differently. Add the people in your home and see how each program is likely to count them.

Two questions that change the count
These are the general rules, not a determination
Household definitions vary by state and have exceptions this tool does not model — shared custody, foster placements, students living away, and informal caregiving all have their own handling. Use this to know what to ask, then ask the agency directly.
When you are not sure, say so
"I am not sure how to count my household for this program — can you tell me how it works for my situation?" is a normal question that intake workers answer every day. Asking is considerably cheaper than fixing a determination later.
